Ranella australasia - Beautiful Aperture !!! , (G. Perry, 1811)
Size
71.9 mm
Locality
Port Macdonnell, South Australia
Note
Taken in a lobster pot from 68 metres of water at Port Macdonnell, South Australia. This specimen features a bone white base colour with faded yellow and toffee brown patterning. Nodules spiral from spire to siphon. Fine teeth-like ridges line the aperture. We only see this nodulous form from deep water around Australia's southern and west coast. Shallow water specimens do not have this feature. Perhaps two species exist. Graded F++ due to damage to spire tip.
