| Note | Hard to find a higher quality representative of this species than this large specimen. One in a thousand. The murex has the notable distinction of displaying four sets of varix ornamented erect structures (deluxe spines) as seen in the posteriorly oriented photographs. The dorsal spines elevate and extend high off the main body whorl and the aperture is complemented by intense marginal spines (transverse plicae). Specimen complete with intact apex, perfect siphonal canal and excellent pink aperture lip. There is present light protoconch erosion. Collected by fisherman in the 80's off Mactan Island, Cebu, Philippines. Grade: F+++/GEM. |
