| Note | Massive, solid and colorful example of a hard to obtain African classic Volute. The specimen shows a thick natural lip, heavy size to weight ratio (301.3 grams), excellent aperture gloss, densely ribbed spire and excellent axial symmetry. The shell demonstrates an impressive body whorl pattern with a strong marmalade/carrot orange pigmented pattern of the spire, displays longitudinal axial banding of the body whorl and a cantaloupe pastel orange/flesh-toned aperture. The shell was captured by local fisherman in nets at 20-50 meters off Berbera Port, Gulf of Aden, Somalia in the late 90's. The classic Volute under scrutiny shows minor growth/body whorl irregularities, small drill attempt on the ventral spire above the shoulder. Grade: F++. |
