| Note | This is a visually aesthetic and harmonic colored specimen of this South Seas subspecies. The distinctly humped dorsum features fine dorsal netting with striking bluish/grey maculae. The reticulated pattern is complemented by a definitive dorsal mantle line. The margins are boldly thick/prominent with porcelain white and lemonade pink/apricot hues. The heavily spotted margins show moderate tuberculation. The flawless base shows excellent gloss, the shell shows an excellent size/weight ratio and the posterior extremity is slightly rostrated (64.0 grams). Collected by the late/great Scuba diver Paul Kanner off Taioha'e Bay, Nuku Hiva, Marquesas at 5 meters in 11/2003 perched on exposed rocks on a night dive. Original data slip from Paul included. The specimen presents with some subtle palpable subnacre creases on the mid-dorsum/posterior ramp. Grade: F+++/GEM minus. |
