95.5 mm Lakes Entrance, VIC, Australia 39,00 € |
|
| Item | # 0003931809 |
| Family | Cypraeidae |
| Name | Umbilia hesitata hesitata - TRANSITIONAL HOWELLI , Iredale 1916 |
| Size | 95.5 mm |
| Locality | Lakes Entrance, VIC, Australia |
| Note | Nearly albinistic, robust and distinctive hypo-patterned umbilia from colder water. The specimen displays interesting ultra sparse dorsal maculae/spotting. The fading maculae patterning on the dorsum is complemented by an excellent nacre glow. The lateral wall spotting and rostration is unusually subdued. The shell demonstrates excellent inflated anatomical form. The light subtle patterns are reminiscent of a transitional specimen between the typical hesitata and verging on the completely albinistic howelli subspecies. The Umbila was trawled southeast of Lakes Entrance, Victoria, Australia at 240 meters in the mid-1990's. The shell has a few subtile silt stains in the aperture and another on the posterior ramp, proximal to the posterior extremity. Grade: F+++/GEM. |
