| Note | This North American species can be found on ship wrecks and the rusty coloration is outstanding. This particular rusty chesnut cowrie is a super example, with a rusty/brown and burnt orange dorsum, black undulating ring and tangerine orange painted lateral walls. The specimen has perfect anterior and posterior siphons with perfect china white teeth and aperture. The specimen shows several "rust rings" that are all subnacre and glazed over by the gastropod. These colored rust patches add to the character of this shipwrecked inhabitant and not considered defects. A lovely "California Gold" specimen in any collection. Collected on Scuba at 18-20 meters by the late/great Paul Kanner on the Star of Scotland shipwreck off Santa Monica Bay, California in 2012. Grade: F+++. |
