| Note | Remarkably large, robust and distinctive dark patterned umbilia from the colder water. The specimen displays interesting and dark dorsal patterning, The large dorsal pattern maculae are well-balanced and maculae patterning complemented by an excellent nacre glow and wide dorsal line. The lateral wall spotting is strong as revealed in images and rostration is moderate to the posterior extremity. The shell demonstrates excellent inflated anatomical form. A respectfully large and heavy shell among the many available specimens (100.0 grams). The Umbila was trawled off Disaster Bay, New South Wales, Australia at 200-240 meters in 4/2008. The shell shows no silt stains in the aperture, but has a glazed growth disruption fold hidden in the dorsal line and a transverse line of sand inclusions on the columellar mid-dorsum. Grade: F++. |
