| Note | This shell is a good example of the rare tigris variation with ocellated dots. To my knowledge such variation has been sporadically reported from both the Pacific (Indonesia, Philippines) and the Indian ocean (Tanzania, Mozambique). Very glossy, it has been hard to photograph due to reflections. The background dorsal color is brownish-yellowish with reddish tones; sides are whitish with brown and black non-ocellated dots; the ventral side, slightly concave, is white on the sides, turning yellowish towards the aperture. Heavy shell. Collected on the reef at low tide north of Vilankulo, Mozambique. Shadows and white marks are reflections from the camera. |
