TWIN YUHSIUAE. Too many new descriptions go unnoticed. Few weeks ago I discovered the description of yuhsiuae, and at the occasion of the two treasures here offered for auction, I could spend one more hour with Houart's fine 2014 book on the Muricinae of the world in which these beauties are described. Many in the west will wonder where the name comes from: the shell is named after Yu-Hsiu Yen - western name "Ann Yen", from the National Central University, Taiwan. She draw the attention of Roland to the fact that this species is also found in Taiwanese waters. But the type locality is Balut Island. Material from Punta Engano and Mactan Island as mentioned in the description is highly suspicious, as hundreds of dredgings did not reveal a single specimen from this area. But virtually all Balut material from before the event of internet passed through Mactan Island, from where the confusion. The V. yuhsiuae is compared in extenso with related species: the text is very long and we refer to Houart his book for details. Here two shells, on the left a "typical" shell with the superb pattern of spiral lines on the shoulder and on the lower half of the body whorl. And then a unique piece, in which the spiral lines are absent on the lower half, to start again only at the birth of the siphonal canal. A delegation of beauty with a UNIQUE pattern.
