A DANCE SHELL, BEAUTIFUL AND FRESH LOOKING, DESPITE IT IS ALMOST HALF A CENTURY OLD. Peter Dance observed in 1969: “M. beaui comes in two forms: the shallower water-form with simple spines and the much scarcer deep-water form with the spines webbed or frilled.” Collectors of the latest twenty years got many opportunities to buy the webbed and frilled forms - although not cheap - but less opportunities to get the so-called “shallower water-form”. We here auction that form, likely a “Black” shell, dredged by the Black family in the seventies. Beautiful piece and quite scarce.
USA. Florida. South of Florida. Dredged. 30-40 m. Circa 1975.
