Austrocypraea reevei - Cute little humpback !!! , (J. E. Gray, 1832)
Size
30.1 mm
Locality
Augusta, WA
Note
Whilst using the ROV we come across some very dead shells laying on the bottom which we refer to as “rocks”. Some of these are collected and rather than discarded. This shell has totally lost its nacre and is severely eroded. I offer it as I believe there are collectors who would appreciate the specimen despite its poor condition. Collected in 96 metres of water near Augusta, Western Australia in October 2025. This pretty little shell features a sandy yellow base coloration with soft brown markings in the form of horizontal bands across the dorsum. Quite appealingly round to look at in hand.
