| Note | A GROWTH SERIES OF POPPEI’S, ONCE COMMON, NOW A SCARCE SPECIES. This is a stunning growth series of a once common species, now rather scarce. Murex poppei was the first species named after G. T. Poppe. Both the author Roland Houart and Poppe were young shell enthusiasts, both member of the Société Belge de Malacologie, both working at a short distance of each other in offices in the center of Brussels. So, they often got coffee together. Shortly after the description, Ponder & Vokes placed this Murex as a chronosubspecies of Murex djarianensis - which is possibly correct also. Most publications follow this point of view. This is a beautiful ensemble in any collection and more rare every day.
SiZES: 154 mm, 130.7 mm, 100 mm, 74.7 mm, 40.3 mm.
