| Family | BIVALVIA |
| Name | Chama pellucida - Rare, Hard to Obtain , Broderip, 1835 |
| Size | 45 mm |
| Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
| Note | One very nice and live-collected specimen of Chama pellucida, a rare sessile bivalve which is found in rocky areas in northern Chile, from the southern end of its distribution. This is the only Chama species found in Chile, and it is found only in certain areas of northern Chile. This specimen was collected alive: it was carefully detached from a rock and it is in very good condition for the species, having nice frills. This specimen was carefully cleaned, but can be cleaned further. It is interesting to note that the interior of the shell has a nice and rare bluish hue, very different from most other Chama pellucida specimens. A very low price for a hard-to-obtain bivalve from the southeastern Pacific. |
