A HALIOTIS DISCUS DISCUS IN ITS BEST. About 1 discus discus were offered to us compared to each set of 10 discus hannai, so this is definitely a much less common subspecies. The "discus discus" is distinguished at once from "discus hannai" by the smoother shell and bigger size. The H. discus discus has no muscle scar inside the shell and the mother-of-pearl is pale, beautiful and very shiny. This is a typical Japanese abalone, with a few localities known along the coast of Korea and one in China. Here one of the largest pieces we recently obtained: a stunning 166 mm in length. The condition is exceptional for the species, although the shell has a chip on the lower right, as can be seen on the photo.
