FamilyECHINOIDEA
NameArbacia nigra - Very Nice, Selected , (Molina, 1782)
Size47.5 mm
LocalityCaldera, northern Chile
NoteOne very nice, selected, and little specimen of Arbacia nigra (formerly known as Tetrapygus niger), an endemic urchin of Chile and PerĂº. This is the test (skeleton), without spines but with the aristotle's lantern inside, from a specimen washed ashore fresh dead at a beach in northern Chile and was carefully cleaned and with no damages as can be seen in the images. These tests are the skeletal structure of the sea urchins and in living specimens they contain their soft parts and support their spines. They are very colorful and a nice natural history item, a colorful urchin test perfect for your Natural History Cabinet or Wunderkammer. A very low price for the Christmas auction!
