| Note | Remarkably sculptured and admirable aesthetic specimen. Moderately heavy weight to size ratio shell with exquisite base markings and symmetrical flanging (23.8 grams). The shell presents with an immaculate dorsum with a mist of subdued spotting, not typically seen in this subspecies. Excellent nacre gloss, perfect terminals and remarkable marginal and base spotting. The margins are modestly tuberculated and the base pattern impressive. The shell was captured by the late/great Scuba diver Peter Clarkson at 31 meters while perched on a yellowish cream colored Geodia sp. sponge growing from the roof of a cave/ledge of a limestone reef covered with rich algae and sponges. The shell was located west of Jurien Boat Harbour, Jurien Bay, Western Australia in 7/2001. Original data slip from Peter included. The specimen was featured in Australia's Spectacular Cowries textbook on Plate 198, figure f. The specimen presents with a shallow developmental wobble on the labral lateral wall and a repaired area on the posterior columellar margin. Grade: F++/F+++. |
