Bursa bufonia f. dunkeri - JAPANESE FROG SHELL , Kira 1962
Size
66.8 mm, w/o
Locality
Shirahama Coast, Japan
Note
Uncommon large distinctively pigmented Japanese frog shell with thick, ovate, and rugged/nodulose sculpture from the intersection of spiral ribs, with strong axial cords, complemented by a porcelainized peach hued aperture. The shell boasts a tall spire, rugged, strong nodulose warty pattern projecting off the axial cords. The inner lip shows remarkable and distinctive transverse plicae. A remarkably exceptional shell in any condition. The shell was taken by gill nets at 30-40 meters off southwest Kii Peninsula, Wakayama Prefecture, Shirahama Coast, Japan in 10/2010. The specimen shows excellent form, with intact aperture, body whorl, and spire. Larger specimen, showing typical wear of the protoconch and attrition of the siphonal canal tip. Grade: F+++.
