| Note | An ultra-large specimen of this endemic, deep-water South African species. Dead-collected, as usual, yet exhibiting as-live colour: pale reddish burgundy, with accents of slightly darker colour at interstices of peripheral spines; brilliant orange ventrum; opalescent apertural interior. Very difficult to obtain now, especially at this size, coming only from old collections. Data: Off Gonubie, East London, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa; upon sand/mud/detritus substrate; 80-120 m; dredged; 1994. Size: 91.4 mm. Grading: Fine. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
