NoteAs the Volutidae specialist will be aware, it is extremely difficult to obtain a specimen of this deep-water, endemic Queensland species which does not exhibit substantial damage, with the overwhelming majority of specimens incurring damage during life – heavy growth breaks, or the trawling process – loss to the delicate anterior canal. The current specimen is a rare exception, which, although extremely fresh-dead-collected, exhibits a live-collected appearance, and none of the above-mentioned damage or loss. PERFECT anterior canal. The specimen is also one of the most beautiful I have ever encountered, exhibiting a pattern formed with rare regularity and clarity. A product of the 1980s Queensland trawls, and never collected since. Now obtainable only from old collections. Data: Capricorn Channel, East of Lady Musgrave Island, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 180-200 m; trawled; 1983. Size: 78.6 mm. Grading: Fine+++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
