| Note | The advanced collector will be aware of the supreme difficulty of obtaining a truly GIANT specimen of this ‘classic’ species of superb quality. Virtually all examples of 130 mm+ exhibit substantial growth disruptions, along with other flaws, and the pattern becomes wayward, to unsightly, upon account of the ‘stop-start’ slow incremental growth of hypermature examples. By contrast, the current specimen, at 140 mm, exhibits a beautiful regular pattern, in rich colours, and its single restricted growth disruption occurs upon the ventral, (non-display) side. (Image available upon request, as above images illustrate the magnificent nature of the shell in all other respects.) It is exceedingly difficult to obtain a specimen of 140 mm+ now, with those few known coming only from old collections.
