NoteWhilst using the ROV we come across some very dead shells laying on the bottom which we refer to as “rocks”. Some of these are collected rather than discarding them. This shell has totally lost its nacre and is severely eroded. I offer it as I believe there are collectors who would appreciate the specimen despite its poor condition. The shell has been oiled with paraffin oil to gain an idea of the shells original colour. The oil can be removed by washing in hot soapy water. Collected from 130 metres of water west of Margaret River during October 2025. West of Margaret River in depths on 120 to 130 metres we see an inter-grade between inshore friendii and kostini. This shell is close to kostini but is larger, more densely spotted and with more prominent siphons than kostini collected in deeper water. Dead collected shell.
