| Item | # 0003993902 | | Family | POLIPLACOPHORA | | Name | Enoplochiton niger - Difficult to obtain , (Barnes, 1824) |
| Size | 56 mm |
| Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
| Note | One interesting specimen of Enoplochiton niger. This one was washed ashore and was found dry and curled, measuring (curled) at 56 mm, and flat (or detached valves) would measure about 110 mm. This is one of the largest Chiton species, but it is very difficult to obtain as it lives in the surf zone and it is hard to detach from the smooth boulders where they live. They usually have very eroded shells, often with Scurria parasitica and algae covering their shells. This specimen has very eroded valves as usual, as can be seen, but I have put a very low initial price for this interesting large chiton from the southeastern Pacific. |
