| Item | # 0003999940 | | Family | Fissurellidae | | Name | Fissurella crassa - Gargantuan giant! , Lamarck, 1822 |
| Size | 97.9 mm |
| Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
| Note | One giant live-taken specimen of Fissurella crassa. This species lives in the intertidal and in general has a more cleaner shell than other Chilean Fissurella specimens, although they also almost always have a Scurria scar and often a very eroded dorsum. This particular specimen has both the Scurria scar, the erosion, and some minor flaws in the anterior part of the border, but this is expected given the giant size of the specimen, which is the second largest that I have found. Of interest is that this specimen has a grey-purplish area in the interior of the shell, which is usually from white to pink in coloration. This is a nice specimen for the collector of giants, record sizes, or for your wunderkammer! I will give an additional normal-sized specimen of Fissurella crassa to the buyer of this specimen. |
