Argonauta argo f. cygnus - VERY RARE , Monterosato, 1913
Size
136.1 mm
Locality
China
Note
Argonauta are variable. The variants turn up with great stability in shape. One such variant is the “cygnus”: these are argo that miss the angular spine near the spire. The aperture goes in one smooth movement: starting at the umbilicus - ending at the periphery of the shell. “Cygnus” has an elegant shape of great beauty. Cygnus are definitely much rarer than classic Argonautes. This is a really large piece.
