| Item | # 0004022397 | | Family | Conidae | | Name | Chelyconus purpurascens - KANNER COLLECTION , G. B. Sowerby I 1833 |
| Size | 72.8 mm, w/o |
| Locality | San Benedicto Is., Baja, Mexico |
| Note | Magnificent, large, dark and exceptionally bulbous specimen from the remote Eastern Pacific. The shell is moderately heavy, with acceptable nacre gloss, perfect natural lip and spire. The solid dark brown/black banding pattern is exquisite, standout violet toned primary body whorl pigmentation (Strong violet/blue colors not captured well in these images). The central band is a classic for the species. Specimens of this species do not get much better than this one. The specimen was harvested by Scuba diver Paul Kanner off San Benedicto Island, Revillagigedo Archipelago, Eastern Pacific, Baja, Mexico in a rock crevice at 8-10 meters in 3/1986. The shell exhibits one negligible growth fold on the dorsal body whorl. Grade: GEM minus. |
