| Note | Deep water murex with a massive body whorl and flared/extended/backswept spines. The shell displays chocolate brown hued striae and costae with a few dark brown tubercles on the body whorl. The specimen has shows a perfect protoconch, a prominent spire and a porcelain white aperture. The murex shell was collected as bycatch by prawn trawlers at 50-60 meters off Cape Hino, Wakayama Prefect, Japan in the mid-80s. The shell has a chip of the anterior siphonal canal tip. Grade: F+++. |
