| Note | An outstanding GIANT specimen of the DEEP-WATER SOUTHERN QUEENSLAND form – the LARGEST and FINEST specimen of this form of the JES Collection. At the southern end of the species range, shells are solid, broad, and strongly noded at the periphery. As the species progresses northwards, its shell becomes finer, more elongate, and the peripheral nodes less prominent. This phenomenon culminates in C. m. altispira in northern Queensland – a very distinct form. It may therefore be simplest to consider the species as having three distinct geographical forms, each of which is remains subject to individual variation: 1. the solid, broad southern form; 2. an intermediate between 1 and 3, maintaining the colour and pattern characteristics of 1; 3. a northern form, assigned the name C. m. altispira. Incredibly beautiful dense, intricate, well-formed pattern. Extremely rare quality for the species, size, and collection method, with exemplary preservation of the ultra-delicate siphonal canal. Rare locality. The majority of known specimens of this intermediate form are from northern New South Wales localities, particularly Tweed Heads. Fine periostracum intact. A truly SPECTACULAR shell for the advanced Volutidae specialist, or dedicated collector of giant-sized shells. NOTE: This extremely large shell requires a very large parcel for adequate protection, but I will round down postage to anywhere in the world to 45 EUR.
