NoteAt virtually 50 mm, this superb GIANT of the beautiful JAPANESE form, is only around 6 mm under the current official World Record Size of 56.10 mm. Exemplary quality for this typically rough, deep-water species, and for such enormous size, with excellent preservation of all spines and apex. Hypermature: extremely solid and heavy for a coral shell. Data: Hakata Bay, Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan; upon sand/mud substrate; 200-300 m; 2006. Size: 49.2 mm. Grading: Fine++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
