| Item | # 0004035608 | | Family | Muricidae | | Name | Pterochelus acanthopterus - RARE WHITE; THE BEST , Lamarck, 1816 |
| Size | 86.5 mm, w/o |
| Locality | Australia |
| Note | This MAGNIFICENT, ULTRA-LARGE specimen represents the absolute zenith of expression for the RARE WHITE FORM. The species inhabits a muddy, salty terrain, and is prone to erosion to the early whorls, along with reduced varical ‘frills’. It is very rare to encounter an example of even the typical brown form exhibiting such expansive, ultra-frilly, ultra-well-preserved varices, let alone a white specimen. Now obtainable like this only from choice old collections. Definitely for the advanced Muricidae specialist seeking a ‘BEST of the BEST’ example of the white form, or for the admirer of truly exquisite seashells. Data: Off Enderby Island, Dampier Archipelago, Pilbara, Western Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate, upon intertidal sandflat, at low tide; 1984. Size: 86.5 mm. Grading: Gem; w/o. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
