| Family | Conidae |
| Name | Conus rainesae - RARE; 1970s TRAWL , McGinty, 1953 |
| Size | 19.3 mm |
| Locality | USA |
| Note | A superb specimen of the RARE endemic Floridian form of this central American species, collected over half a century ago, during the very early days of deep-water Floridian trawling. Characteristic diminutive size; fine shell; nodulose early whorls; carinate spire; and sporadic coalescent maculae. Ultra-delicate glassy, mammillate protoconch intact. Not freshly collected for decades, and almost impossible to obtain now, coming only when deaccessioned from the choicest old collections. Definitely for the advanced Conidae specialist. Data: Egmont Channel, off Egmont Key, Hillsborough County, Florida, USA; upon sand/mud substrate; 80-100 m; trawled; 1971. Size: 19.3 mm. Grading: Fine++ (restricted loss to apertural lip). Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
