| Family | Conidae |
| Name | Conus circumcisus brazieri - EXQUISITE COLOUR BANDS , Sowerby III, 1881 |
| Size | 69.7 mm |
| Locality | Philippines |
| Note | A MAGNIFICENT ultra-large specimen – the most exquisite brazieri of the JES Collection – exhibiting spectacular ‘one in a hundred’ colour and pattern. Distinct broad spiral bands of atypically beautiful colours: pale lavender; ochre; lemon; and white – decorated with sporadic flecks of dark chocolate. Large characteristic maculations of caramel-ochre to spire. A truly exquisite specimen for the Conidae specialist. NOTE: Sowerby III described brazieri as a full species, but the type specimen, which I have examined, now in the Melvill-Tomlin collection in Wales, is clearly circumcisus, albeit an unusually patterned specimen. Data: Bohol Sea, off Punta Engaño, Mactan, Cebu, Central Visayas, Philippines; upon sand/rubble substrate; 10-20 m; dived; 2006. Size: 69.7 mm. Grading: Fine+++ (light smoothing to apertural lip). Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
