NoteGEM. It is a dream for Urchin collector to own this huge size and most gorgeous species in the genus Phyllacanthus, the most largest species in the family Cidaridae. It is endemic to Australia. This mega giant FEMALE specimen has exceed 100mm and reaching near to the maximum known size. Most beautiful gorgeous shape and best colour, with a purplish and pink tint. Perfect specimen with apical disc fully intact. Periproctal plate intact too. Amazingly all the individual tubercles are totally intact and perfect. All 5 auricles are fully intact and in perfect condition. Found by diving in 7m deep on rocky reef, 13 Jan 2004. My very last pc. Rarely seen. Rare size with every single tubercle perfectly intact. Personally I prefer female specimen over male specimen as it is aesthetically more beautiful with enlarged gonopores. Very rare to find one so beautiful and in such top perfect condition. Please do not mix up this species with Phyllacanthus imperialis. It is way much larger than Phyllacanthus imperialis. Click on the second photo to see higher resolution and clearer image.
