| Note | GEM. In my opinion this is the most beautiful species in the family Cidaridae. It is endemic to Australia. Giant size reaching almost 50mm! Most beautiful gorgeous shape and best colour, with a purplish and pink tint. Very striking contrasting pattern and sculpture. Perfect specimen with apical disc fully intact and periproctal plate intact too. Amazingly all the individual tubercles are totally intact. All 5 auricles are fully intact and in perfect condition. Found by diving in 11m deep on shell rubble, 17 May 1998. My very last pc and the biggest and most perfect specimen I kept for decades. Rarely seen. Giant size with every single tubercle perfectly intact. Very rare to find one so beautiful and in such top perfect condition. Click on the second photo to see higher resolution and clearer image. |
