| Note | A MAGNIFICENT ULTRA-LARGE specimen of this exceedingly beautiful endemic Marquesan subspecies, of extremely RARE QUALITY – PERFECTION. As this subspecies inhabits rocky reefs, secreting itself under ledges and within crevices, specimens often exhibit consequent scratches and other nacre marks. The current specimen, by contrast, is of the finest possible quality, being devoid of all such detracting marks. Hypermature, with pronounced weight and solidity. Markedly rhomboidal, this aspect being enhanced by the copious deposition of shell material at the mid-point of both margins. Spectacular, exceedingly well-formed dorsal pattern of the highest aesthetic merit. Rarely offered at this level of quality and beauty. A martybealsi for the connoisseur, and an INCREDIBLE shell 'in the hand'. Data: Baie de Hakatea, Nuku Hiva, Marquesas Islands; upon coral reef substrate, under ledge; 3-6 m; dived; 2024.
