| Note | Koota Panai, Tamil Nadu, India; Trawled at 25 - 30 meters deep; July 2023; 58,28 mm - F+++; Siphon with some damage. Great specimen of acceptable size.; This is the real Cantharus melanostoma (G. B. Sowerby I, 1825). The species in the West Pacific is proven to be distinct and is named Cantharus orientis by K. Fraussen and yours truely in 2025. This shell is used in that study. None of these are figured as all figures of C. melanostoma in the article are from the Fraussen collection.
