| Note | Malmok, Aruba, scuba diving at 4 to 6 meters depth, on a sparse seagrass and sand bottom, collected at night 2022-2024. One of the very few monicae over 50 mm I have. This uncommon species is endemic to Aruba and occurs in a small seagrass area near Malmok, where it hunts at night. Conus monicae is generally larger and broader than the closely related Conus curassaviensis. The offered shell has a near perfect lip and a very unique pattern and a long spire for this species. The shell has a growth line, partly hidden behind the cloth holding the operculum. The operculum is tiny and likely has little functional use, possibly an evolutionary remnant. |
