| Size | 135 mm, w/o |
| Locality | Japan |
| Note | An OUTSTANDING GIANT specimen of the seldom offered JAPANESE FORM, from the very early days of deep-water Japanese trawling. Incredible broad ovate form, with extrenely well-developed protruberances, reminiscent of a World War II sea mine. Exceptional quality for this typically very rough species – about as close to perfect as is possible for such a giant. Retention of enormous original operculum. Not freshly collected for decades, and now obtainable only from choice old collections. Definitely for the Turbinidae specialist, or collector of BIG shells, seeking a first-rate example of this very difficult to obtain form. Data: Boso Peninsula, Chiba Prefecture, Honshu, Japan; upon sand substrate, amongst rocks, stones, and algae; 40-60 m; trawled; 1972. Size: 135 mm. Grading: Gem; w/o. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
