| Note | One very excellent, rather large, and colorful specimen of Arbacia nigra (formerly known as Tetrapygus niger), an endemic urchin of Chile and Perú. This is only the test (skeleton), without spines, from a specimen washed ashore alive at a beach in northern Chile, and which was carefully cleaned with soap and soft brushes. These tests are the skeletal structure of the sea urchins and in living specimens they contain their soft parts and support their spines. They are very colorful and a nice natural history item, a colorful urchin test perfect for your Natural History Cabinet or Wunderkammer. |
