| Note | One nice specimen of Concholepas concholepas with its original operculum. This is the largest muricid species found in Chile, and one of the largest gastropods found in northern Chile. They are heavily extracted and their populations are diminishing, as it is an edible species with a large muscle. Usually their shells are very encrusted with encrusting calcareous algae and cirripedian communities, among many other epibionts, but in this case the dorsum was preliminarly cleaned, and can be cleaned to perfection with some patience. A very low initial price for an interesting muricid. |
