| Note | Xesta luctuosa butonensis P. & F. Sarasin, 1899 is a beautiful and highly valued subspecies of land snail, endemic to Buton Island, Southeast Sulawesi. Main Characteristics - Shape: The shell is flat and wide, very sturdy, dense, with a perfectly smooth and shiny surface, and feels thick and heavy. The concave center forms a very clear and neat swirl. - Color & Pattern: Very elegant and contrasting. The apex or center is a deep dark brown, followed by a radiating band of golden brown or bright orange, then changing to pure white on the underside and lip of the mouth. The color combination is very subtle, bright, and looks very luxurious. - Size: Quite large and wide, making it one of the most impressive species from the region. - Location: It occurs naturally only in the forests of Buton Island, found nowhere else, making it a unique natural treasure of this region. - Value: Due to its perfect shape, exceptionally bright and clean colors, and limited distribution, this shell is highly sought after and a prized collectible for snail enthusiasts worldwide.
