| Item | # 0004158860 | | Family | Cassidae | | Name | Cassis exigua - RARE MILLEGRANOSA FORM , Tenison-Woods, J.E., 1879 |
| Size | 34 mm |
| Locality | Australia |
| Note | An OUTSTANDING specimen of the RARE, diminutive, ‘millegranosa’ form of this delicate, endemic, deep-water, north-eastern Australian species – the most beautiful incarnation of the species. Specimens of this rare form tend to be smaller than typical examples, and exhibit FIVE spiral rows of atypically fine and numerous nodes. RARE QUALITY, with excetional preservation of the ultra-delicate columellar shield, almost always damaged in this species, but PERFECT in the current specimen. Not collected since the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls, and now obtainable only from choice old collections. Definitely for the Cassidae specialist seeking a first-rate example of this rare form. Data: Swain Reefs, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 80-120 m; trawled; 1982. Size: 34 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
