Item# 0004164198
FamilyPectinidae
NameBractechlamys corallinoides - Superb GIANT , (A. d’Orbigny, 1840)
Size39 mm
LocalityTenerife
NoteEntorno de Montaña Pelada, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. Approximately 13 m depth; collected by a local diver, April 2023. Exceptional large Tenerife specimen. At 39 mm, it is the largest complete two-valved Tenerife B. corallinoides specimen known to the local technical dive club from at least the last five years. With a maximum thickness of 16.5 mm, it is notable for its size, completeness, vivid coloration, and overall preservation. Exterior with intense orange-red ground colour, well-developed radial costae, and exceptionally preserved surface, showing almost no erosion. Auricles, hinge elements, valve margins, and marginal crenulations largely intact. Interior surfaces clean, lustrous, and strongly coloured, with rich orange-red and golden tones across both valves. For its size, an exceptionally attractive specimen. According to the diver, the shell was treated once after collection with diving-gear grease, described as “original Vaseline”; this appears superficial and should be removable if desired.
