Note

Remote side of Montaña Roja, El Médano, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. Cave habitat at 17 m depth within Spearfishing Zone T7. Collected by a local spearfishing crew, August 2024. - | - Unusually inflated and robust specimen with strongly developed shell convexity. Shell margins, hinge structures, and marginal crenulations largely intact and well preserved. Exterior exhibiting warm reddish-brown to cream coloration with well-developed radial sculpture and pronounced plications throughout. Auricles slightly shortened on one side, apparently representing natural auricular underdevelopment rather than post-collection damage. - | - One valve displays a single hairline fracture measuring approximately 1 cm in length. The crack appears stable, without displacement, repair, or associated shell loss, and remains relatively inconspicuous within the overall shell structure. Apart from this minor imperfection, the specimen is free from significant chips, breaks, or restoration. - | - Overall morphology compact, heavy, and notably inflated compared to typical specimens, giving the shell an unusually robust appearance.
