| Item | # 0004190488 | | Family | Angaridae | | Name | Angaria tyria - RARE SIZE / QUALITY , Reeve, 1842 |
| Size | 49.2 mm, w/o |
| Locality | Australia |
| Note | Just touching 50 mm, this is the LARGEST and FINEST specimen of the JES Collection of this endemic Western Australian species. Exquisite, subtle colour: greyish white of ice and snow, decorated with a broad spiral band of deep violet-burgundy below the suture, and at the umbilicus. Only when hypermature, as in the current example, is the true adult nature of the external surface sculpture revealed – multitudinous spiral rows of short spines, arrayed in file-like form. Exemplary quality for this rock-reef-dwelling species. Extremely difficult to obtain at this level of size and quality now, coming almost exclusively from choice old collections. A rare opportunity for an Angariidae specialist. Data: Jurien Bay, Wheatbelt region, Western Australia, Australia; upon rock reef substrate; 4 m; dived; 1989. Size: 49.2 mm. Grading: Fine+++; w/o. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
