| Note | An extremely large and SPECTACULAR specimen of this singular, striking, endemic Vietnamese species. Colloquially referred to as the ‘giant magnolia snail’, the species was thought to be extinct, until rediscovered in southern Vietnam in 2012. Although extant within a restricted region, a variety of threats to the species habitat has diminished the population, although several captive breeding programs are underway. (See New Scientist 30 April 2025.) Data: Da Lat region, Lâm Dong province, Vietnam; in highlands rainforest, at 1500 MAMSL, upon primitive pine trunk, at night; July 2015.
