| Note | A superb specimen of the RARE and very seldom offered BIG VICTORIAN FORM of this endemic southern Australian species. The Victorian form is far larger, more solid, and more rugged than the South Australia form, and exhibits a beautiful caramel accent to the siphonal canal. Glassy, mammillate protoconch intact. Such specimens were dredged during the 1980s, and have not been freshly collected since. An opportunity to acquire a form undoubtedly lacking in many of even the most advanced Muricidae collections. Data: Westernport Bay, off Flinders, Victoria, Australia; upon sand/mud substrate; 30-40 m; dredged; 1986. Size: 17.8 mm. Grading: Fine++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
