| Note | Most Voluta caquetio from Aruba are found near Malmok and Arashi in the northwest. However, around 20 km further south near Mangel Halto, a population can also be found in shallow water. This population is noticeably different from the Arashi/Malmok population; the shells are yellowish/brownish, generally larger , with a light yellowish protoconch. Not fully matching the description of Voluta caquetio. Could this be due to a different food source at Mangel Halto? The offered shell is a nice example from the Mangel Halto population. Grade: (F+++). |
