Note

One very nice live-taken specimen of Thaisella chocolata of the rarer spiny variety. This species is collected by divers in 4-20 m depth off the rocky coasts of northern Chile and southern Perú, and it is an uncommon species. This species is rare in collections as their shells are almost always covered with cirripedian and other epibionts, have scars from living in high energy areas, and are in generalnrather very ugly. This particular specimen is in very good condition for the species, and it has very small defects. Most importantly, it preserves its original operculum (not shown here) which is almost always discarded by the fishermen. This specimen was collected recently by a diver at shallow depth. A very low initial price for a species which is difficult to obtain for collections and in excellent condition for the species, and with its original operculum!.
