A SPECTACULAR very large specimen, of rare, exceptional quality – virtual perfection; PERFECT, paper-fine, mature apertural lip. Beautiful, subtle colour, in conjunction with a supremely well-formed external surface pattern. The locality has long been protected as part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, with no fresh specimens having been collected for decades, and none being available in future. Specimens of this level of quality and beauty are rare. Data: Off eastern coast of North-West Island, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia; upon coral sand substrate, within sand pockets of reef; 2-4 m; dived; 1980. Size: c. 36 mm. Grading: Gem.
