| Note | I offer an exceptional specimen of each of the three forms of Umbilia capricornica in this sale for direct comparison. SPECIMEN 2: The large, typical solid form. Rich colour. Densely patterned dorsum, incorporating mantle line. Hypermature, with greatly thickened shell walls, and consequent weight and solidity. Exemplary quality for the species, and collection method. A product of the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls – never collected since – and now obtainable only from choice old collections. Data: Off eastern coast of East Cay, Swain Reefs, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia; upon sand/rubble substrate, amongst sponges; 60-80 m; trawled; 1983. Size: 70.5 mm. Grading: Fine+++.
